Pre-Birth to Three:
The Pre-Birth to Three National guidance supports staff working with Scotland’s youngest children and recognises the impact and importance of their work on children’s lives and future life chances. It supports staff to be confident that they are providing the best experiences for babies and children and to know why it is essential that they get it right for every child in these most critical years. The purpose of this guidance is to help inform and support all adults who work with and on behalf of Scotland’s youngest children. The guidance sets out four key principles for best starts and positive outcomes, to ensure that effective support and learning opportunities for very young children can be promoted. The four key principles are: Rights of the Child, Relationships, Responsive Care and Respect.
Building the Ambition:
Building the Ambition is national guidance that builds upon Pre-Birth to Three and Curriculum for Excellence early level from 3 years to 6 years. It provides detailed, practical guidance on the experiences and interactions necessary to deliver the learning journey at the most important developmental stage for babies, toddlers and young children. It describes what is good practice in creating caring and nurturing settings that allow wellbeing, communication, curiosity, inquiry and creativity to flourish.
Curriculum for Excellence:
The Curriculum for Excellence puts the child at the centre of learning. The early level of Curriculum for Excellence is designed to meet the needs of most children from 3 years until the end of Primary 1, promoting continuity and progression of learning across the early learning and childcare and primary sectors. It promotes the importance of:
- active, experiential learning
- a holistic approach to learning
- smooth transitions, and
- learning through play
The aim of our centre is to ensure that every child experiences a broad education that develops skills for learning, for life, and work with a real focus on literacy and numeracy and promotes an active and healthy lifestyle.
Skills for learning, life and work
At Ferguslie Pre-five Centre our children have a natural curiosity about the world around them. Through a variety of play contexts our children understand the different jobs people do within the world of work. They engage in projects that develops a depth of learning and to scaffold this we connect to and work with local businesses and professions. We value the uniqueness of each child connected to our centre within an environment where they develop their skills to make choices, know the decisions they make during their play are valued and can understand what success feels like as their achievements are celebrated. Passionate educators support the family to nurture this natural curiosity and through working together give our children the skills to be all they can be and the desire to be even more.
